Is calcaneal spur permanent?
Asked 3 years ago
My grandpa developed a heel spur many years ago, and he has it to this day. He has this uneven gait and often sits with his foot up. This has me wondering whether it's connected to plantar fasciitis and whether there is an effective treatment that would help it go away? I'd like to help to relieve him of this pain.

Calcaneal spurs are somewhat permanent. While its symptoms are easily manageable, heel spurs can only be removed by surgery. If you're concerned about the pain, he can do the following to relieve his symptoms
- Use NSAIDs
- Wear supportive shoes and insoles
- Physical therapy
- Night splinting
- Padding and strapping of foot.
