Should I remove my sesamoid bone ?
Asked 4 years ago
Could I do this as a preventative measure, or can I only do it if the bone has already broken? Is it something I should even consider at all?

If the bone has died and the pain persists, preventing the individual from bearing weight for three or more months, surgery to remove the sesamoid and restore the person's ability to participate in sports and activities may be required. If one of the sesamoids is removed, the prognosis is usually excellent. When only one sesamoid bone is removed, the other sesamoid bone might still serve as a fulcrum point for the toe flexors. However, if both bones are removed, the toe flexors lose sufficient leverage and are unable to function.
