Can a broken sesamoid bone ever heal?
Asked 4 years ago
I have read that you need to get them completely removed if they break. Is this true? Can they heal on their own?

Sesamoids take a long time to recover. Your foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon may propose conservative therapy before recommending surgery if you have a sesamoid bone fracture. Sesamoid injuries can be very painful for weeks or even months. Sesamoid fractures can take anywhere from four to eight weeks to heal.
