Why do I have sharp, mysterious pain on the outer edge of my midfoot when I walk?
Asked 6 days ago
I have a sharp, aching pain that runs along the outside of my foot, sometimes feeling like it is in the middle of the arch near my ankle, but on the outside. It started recently, gets worse when I am walking, and does not feel like plantar fasciitis. Could this be a bone or joint issue, and is there any immediate fix I can try before seeing a specialist?

That sharp pain along the outside of your foot is caused by cuboid syndrome most of the time. It happens when the cuboid bone in the middle of your foot shifts slightly out of place. It’s pretty common after an ankle sprain or if your foot tends to roll outward when you walk. The best quick fix is to rest the foot, avoid uneven surfaces, and support it properly. A cuboid pad or custom orthotic can help keep the bone stable and ease the pressure. Upstep can make custom orthotics designed for your exact foot shape and deliver them straight to your door. You also won’t need to see a specialist to get them.
