Can a plantar fibroma be itchy?

Asked 3 years ago

Mine has itched a little over the past few days, and I don't know if it is normal for it to be itchy. What should a plantar fibroma feel like, and should I be concerned that it has itched?

A plantar fibroma is a benign but firm, painless nodule in the arch of the foot, which can grow in size. When pain occurs, shoes pushing against the nodule are the cause. It may also be itchy or sensitive to touch, and the color may change with time.

It's very typical to experience an itch with plantar fibroma. It may also feel quite sensitive. I recommend you look for a cream or gel to use that may help you relieve these symptoms and avoid any arch supports.

The sensation of itching can arise due to stimulation of the inflamed nerve from the plantar neuroma you have. It is of no real concern if you feel the itching sensation in your foot, but it is a concern if the sensation does not stop after a period of time. If numbness begins to occur in the toes or elsewhere in the foot, consult with a medical professional regarding this.

Orthotics designed for people who have plantar neuroma can be an effective and conservative way to manage your symptoms and prevent it from getting worse in the future. Orthotics work by redistributing the weight translated through the foot when walking or running. Massaging the foot and the area around the painful area may also help you relieve some of the symptoms of pain that you may be experiencing.

Nodules in the soles of the feet are the typical symptom of plantar fibroma. However, in some instances, you may also experience itching. While itching should not be a cause of concern, there's much that is unknown about plantar fibroma. Hence, you should work with your HCP to draft a treatment plan.
