Can ankle instability lead to foot pain?
Asked 4 years ago
I know this is a strange question, but can ankle instability be the cause of foot pain at all? Are the two related in any way?

Yes, due to related lesions, especially on the outer side of the foot. Chronic regional pain syndrome, tendon diseases such as peroneal tendinopathy, dislocation or subluxation, impingement syndromes, fractures such as the anterior calcaneal process and lateral talar process, and loose structures are all possible complications of chronic ankle instability. The soft tissue between the bones is overstretched and damaged as a result of this. Without comprehensive rehabilitation, the ligaments and surrounding tissue will remain weak- potentially leading to additional more severe sprains.
