Do posterior shin splints last long?

Asked 3 years ago

I have a friend who recently got posterior shin splints and I was wondering how long they last?

Shin splints usually take two to six weeks to heal. It may take up to six months for people with more irritated shin pain to fully recover. Those who rest their shins as soon as symptoms appear are more likely to return to pain-free running. The fastest way to recover from shin splints is to do the following: Rest your body; it requires time to heal; ice your shin to relieve pain and swelling; do so for 10-20 minutes every 6-8 hours for 3 to 4 days, or until the discomfort subsides; wear insoles or orthotics in your shoes; and take anti-inflammatory medicines, if necessary.
