Can I develop AT if I increase the intensity of my workout routine?

What are the chances of me developing Achilles tendonitis if I increase the intensity of my workout routine without giving my body time to adjust? I want to increase the number of reps I do and add in different activities, and I want to know what I should look out for in terms of bodily strain and how to avoid developing tendonitis.
