Is walking good for plantar fasciitis?
Asked 4 years ago
Would it be okay for me to walk if I have plantar fasciitis, or is it better to stay off the foot?

Plantar fasciitis is multifactorial in terms of what triggers or relieves pain. Walking around after laying or sitting for a while may help to relieve plantar fasciitis symptoms as the ligament stretches. However, the discomfort will develop gradually during the day, making you very uncomfortable and interfering with your typical daily activities. Avoid walking or running on hard surfaces and wear orthotics that support the foot and relieve excess pressure when walking. Reduce pain and swelling after a walk by applying ice to your heel, wearing compression stockings, and elevating your foot.

Walking for long periods on hard surfaces, for instance, would put a strain on your plantar fasciitis. Therefore, be sure to rest in between. However, I don't imagine being still for overly long periods without doing stretches would be a good thing either.
Ultimately, the key would be to find a balance between walking, stretching, and resting.
