Can warm water help my shin splints?

I usually soak in a bath of warm water when I have any muscle pain. I am wondering if this may work for shin splints. Does anyone know?

Shin splints are frequently caused by overly tight muscles in the lower extremities. A tense calf muscle is a major contributor to the development of shin splints. To avoid further harm from the massage, the lower extremity should be thoroughly warmed up with a moist heat pack or warm water prior to massage and foam rolling.
