Does high blood pressure increase my risk of developing Achilles Tendonitis?
Asked 3 years ago
Good morning. I'm someone who has struggled with weight for most of my life. I have type 2 diabetes and hypertension. I've been experiencing a dull ache in my ankle, and I'm worried that these conditions will lead to even more complications within my body, like tendonitis, for instance. Should I be worried? Are there any preventive measures I can take to prevent Achilles Tendonitis from developing?

Research suggests that high glucose levels alter tendon homeostasis. Consequently, diabetes causes pathological changes in the Achilles tendon, causing tendonitis. High blood pressure also increases the risk of developing Achilles tendonitis. The best way to avoid developing Achilles tendonitis may be to ensure that your blood pressure and glucose levels remain controlled.
