Why do I have pain right where my Achilles tendon meets my heel bone?
Asked 6 months ago
I have a very specific, sharp pain at the very bottom of my Achilles tendon, where it connects to the back of my heel. It feels stiff and sore first thing in the morning and after running. Is this just a classic case of Achilles tendonitis, and what is the single most effective way to treat this specific insertion point pain?

That sharp pain where your Achilles tendon meets your heel is called insertional Achilles tendonitis. It’s often made worse by tight calf muscles pulling on that spot. The best way to treat it at home is to stretch your calves regularly and do eccentric heel drops. Wearing orthotics with a small heel lift can also help by reducing tension on the tendon and giving it a chance to heal. Upstep can create custom orthotics with the right support and heel lift. These inserts will be delivered straight to your door, so you don’t have to see a specialist.
