Can foot orthotics cause back pain?
Asked 4 years ago
Since I've started wearing orthotics for arch support, I've been experiencing back pain. Could this be due to the orthotics making things worse, or is it something else?

Wearing insoles, or removable inserts that are inserted in shoes, is frequently wrongly assumed to cause lower back pain. However, insoles can assist to alleviate your back pain by addressing the fundamental cause of the problem, including flat feet.
Flat arches, for example, have an impact on the alignment of your muscles, tendons, and joints. Certain regions of your body, such as your ankles, knees, hips, and lower back, are put under undue stress while you walk. If left untreated, pain and discomfort in the muscles and joints will eventually develop.
However, factors such as overuse and improper diagnosis of gait abnormalities leads to orthotics being detrimental. Furthermore, orthotic inserts that aren’t constructed appropriately make it harder to get relief.
In this case, you need custom made orthotics that uniquely fit your gait and biomechanical demands plus a health professional that can direct you.
