Can I run if my feet are swollen?

Asked 4 years ago

I have some swelling on the top of my foot, and I was wondering if I am able to still go for a run. Would this make it worse?

Running with a swollen foot can potentially make things worse. Swelling could, of course, indicate a more serious underlying damage such as overuse ailments including "ankle sprains, tendonitis, and stress fractures" that produces edema on a localized level. Stop running, rest, ice, and elevate the feet for at least 24 hours if there is pain with the swelling, but if the pain persists, get medical assistance from a foot and ankle expert. However, if you’re going to run, jog in comfy shoes with supportive custom insoles. It’s critical to keep your electrolyte levels in check, especially on longer runs.
