Are arch supports good for running?

Whenever I go running, I get shin splints. A companion of mine told me that I should get arch supports in my shoes to prevent that from happening. Is this true?

Yes! Orthotics or arch support can assist reduce the load on the Achilles tendon and help prevent future injuries. During walking and running, it can reduce ankle internal rotation and eversion. Shock-absorbing insoles can alleviate shin pain and help avoid medial tibial stress syndrome. According to studies and research, arch support can do assist to prevent injuries up to a certain degree, but it can certainly aid with pain management and recovery. Proper custom orthotic shoes should be considered first taking into account their structural parameters and loaded heel to toe ratio and of course fit
