Can too much arch support actually hurt my feet?
Asked 5 months ago
I bought a pair of high-support insoles for my work shoes, but now my feet feel tired, and I feel like I am standing on a bar, especially in the arch. Is it possible to have too much arch support, and if so, what is the best way to get a balance of support without weakening my feet or causing new pain?

Yes, too much arch support can cause pain by pushing too hard into your arch and weakening the small muscles in your feet over time. A good insert should support and align your foot, not hold it up completely. If your arches feel sore, try switching to an insole with a medium or more flexible arch that supports your heel and the ends of your arch, rather than pressing into the middle. You can also add some foot-strengthening exercises to help build natural stability. If you’re not sure what level of support you need, custom orthotics from Upstep can help find that balance. They’re designed for your specific foot shape and delivered right to your door. No specialist is needed.
