Due to playing sports, I have gotten shin splints quite a few times. I was wondering if there was a way that I can prevent them from coming back?

You must establish the reason of your shin splints to avoid them from reoccurring. You'll almost certainly need the assistance of a sports-oriented expert for this. Shin splints can be caused by a variety of factors, but the good news is that they can be treated.
Over-pronation, over-striding, and high arches are biomechanical disorders that can be corrected with the right shoes insoles, stretching and/or strengthening exercises, and fitting orthotics. Some of the stress on the shin is relieved by strengthening the anterior lower leg muscles. Stretch and ice your shin after activity to reduce inflammation. Additionally, increase mileage too slowly, warm-ups before activity, and reduce speed work
