How do I maintain athletic performance with high-arched feet?
Asked 3 years ago
I've been an athlete since I was in school, and I'm 30 years old now. I've never had a problem with my feet before, but now I've been diagnosed with cavus foot (apparently, I've likely inherited it), and I am concerned that this will be the end of my career. What steps can I take to ensure that this foot condition doesn't decrease my ability to perform as an athlete?

For the most part, high arches should not affect your athletic performance in non-severe cases of the condition but may predispose you to being at a higher risk for developing injuries in the foot or ankle complex. Making use of supportive orthotics for high arches and corrective shoes to provide support to the arches under weight-bearing and redistribute the weight throughout the foot is extremely helpful in managing this condition and maintaining your athletic performance.
