Why does the inner side of my foot and arch hurt, and feel like it's collapsing?
Asked 2 months ago
I have a persistent ache or pain along the inner side of my ankle and foot, right where my arch is. It feels tender, sometimes swells, and my arch seems to be getting flatter over time. Is this just an arch strain, or is it a sign of a more serious problem that could affect my walking gait?

Pain along the inner side of your foot and a flattening arch usually mean your posterior tibial tendon is struggling. This tendon is the main support for your arch, and if it gets strained or damaged, your arch can start to collapse over time, leading to flat feet. To stop this from getting worse, you need strong arch support right away. Custom orthotics are a great way to provide that support; they help stabilize your arch and take pressure off the tendon so it can heal. Upstep can create custom orthotics made just for your feet and deliver them right to your door. No specialist visit needed.
