What causes pain and swelling in the back of the heel?
Asked 2 years ago
I woke up this morning, and the back of my heel is red, swollen, and so sore! I have no idea why because I didn't injure myself the day before. Any idea what this could be and how to relieve it?

The most common causes of heel pain are plantar fasciitis (bottom of the heel) and Achilles tendinitis (back of the heel). The causes of heel pain also include Achilles tendinitis, Achilles tendon rupture, Bursitis.
How to relieve it?
- Avoid walking long distances and standing for long amounts of time to allow your heel to rest.
- Stretch your calf muscles and plantar fascia on a daily basis.
- Use ice packs on the affected heel
- Painkillers e.g Non Steroidal Anti inflammatory drugs
